In July 2023, PhD student Beryl conducted a field trip to sample streams located in Kisumu, Kenya. These streams are belong to the tributaries of Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa and the main reservoir of the Nile, and located among Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The purpose of the trip was to collect water and sediment samples for determining the ecological status of Lake Victoria tributaries.
The data collected during the field trip will be valuable for assessing the general suitability of Kisumu stream waters for both domestic use and conservation purposes. The trip also provided an opportunity for the local communities to give their views on what can be done to protect Kisumu freshwaters against eutrophication.
